Director: Tony Maylam
Cast: Rutger Hauer, Kim Cattrall, Alastair Duncan
Action, Crime, Horror
Split Second is a heart-pounding sci-fi thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat This action-packed thriller takes you on a wild ride through a dystopian future, filled with suspense, mystery, and a dash of horror.
The movie is set in the year 2008, where London has become a dark and dangerous place due to rising sea levels caused by global warming. The city is flooded, crime is rampant, and chaos reigns supreme. Detective Harley Stone, played by the charismatic Rutger Hauer, is on a mission to catch a serial killer who has been terrorizing the city for years. But this is no ordinary killer. This is a creature from another world, a supernatural being that is part human, part monster.
As the plot unfolds, we are introduced to a gritty and atmospheric world. The film does an excellent job of creating a sense of unease and tension, with its dimly lit streets, rain-soaked alleyways, and eerie music. The visuals are reminiscent of classic film noir, adding to the overall sense of dread and suspense.
One of the major themes explored in Split Second is the idea of humanity’s destruction of the environment and the consequences that follow. The flooded streets of London serve as a stark reminder of the impact of climate change, and the film raises questions about our responsibility to the planet. It also touches on the idea of genetic engineering and the dangers of playing God, as the killer in the movie is the result of a failed experiment gone wrong.
Another theme that runs throughout the film is the concept of fear and how it can consume us. Detective Stone is haunted by his past, particularly the death of his partner at the hands of the killer. This trauma has left him scarred and driven, willing to do whatever it takes to bring the monster to justice. The film explores the idea that fear can both motivate and destroy us, as Stone’s obsession with the killer threatens to consume him.
The performances in Split Second are top-notch, with Rutger Hauer delivering a captivating portrayal of a tormented detective. His chemistry with his partner, played by Alastair Duncan, adds depth to the film and provides moments of levity amidst the darkness. The supporting cast also shines, with Kim Cattrall bringing a strong and independent presence to her role as a police psychologist and stones forbidden love interest from the past .
Split Second is a must-watch for fans of action, horror, and sci-fi. Its gripping plot, atmospheric setting, and thought-provoking themes make it a standout film in the genre. Whether you’re a fan of Rutger Hauer or simply enjoy a good thriller, this movie is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. So grab some popcorn, dim the lights, and prepare yourself for a wild ride through the dark and dangerous streets of London

8 months agoThis is such a fantastic movie, and I also wish they made a sequel. I really wish that since Rutger Hauer's passing that they would have released a remastered version of this movie and his other movies like The Hitcher.
RIP Rutger Hauer

7 months agoThis is so funny to me looking back. In the 1970's "they" said we would die of global cooling in 10 years time. In the 1980's, since that didn't happen, "they" changed it to we would all die from global warming in 10 years time. When that didn't happen, "they" just gave up and have been calling it, "Climate Change", ever since…………….

5 months agoIf I'm not mistaken Stone here is the inspiration/basis of the main character in the shadow run SNES game, which in turn heavily inspired the main character in Dues Ex as well. Which is just perfect in every way.
