Daywalker’s 2 Cents…
“All other eyes are on Naru as she follows a trail of blood during a hunt in the year 1719. Naru’s own are focused on a masked creature with dreads, fangs, and claws. Yes, the Predator has arrived for a hunt of his own.
The Predator, an extraterrestrial from the planet Yautja, first made his appearance in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 1987 film. The beast has now made appearances in five follow-up films and has largely lost his allure. Prey, which shifts the action to 1719, benefits from Dan Trachtenberg’s steady direction, whose credits also include Black Mirror, No Escape, and 10 Cloverfield Lane. Amber Midthunder, who has never played a leading role in a motion picture gives a wonderful performance and brings a dangerous swagger to her part. Her Naru aspires to be a hunter like the men in her tribe, but when her first prey turns out to be an extraterrestrial, she finds herself in over her head but determined to prove herself a worthy warrior!
The plot is simple and well defined: With an axe in one hand and a bow in the other, Naru demonstrates her prowess as she moves through the woodland. She’s no match for this bigger, more nimble animal, yet she’s desperate to upset the food chain and prove herself to all. It’s kind of like seeing a rabbit chase a wolf. Along the journey, there are many encounters between Naru and Predator, as well as many challenges to keep the fearless Naru on her toes.
Prey follows in the tradition of Predator, which has always been about the action. Whether in a forest, lake, or camp, the beast always comes up with novel ways to dismember his victims. He uses the same tools from earlier episodes but with fewer modern trappings. A deft way of setting us in a bygone era where guns are substituted by spears while tearing into his prey like a lion does a piece of meat. In contrast to Arnold, Naru is more shaped like Ripley, bringing a Girl Power message to the never-ending fights. The kills are as spectacular in all their glory as is the cinematography and the breathtaking location where Prey was filmed.
Midthunder and the rest of the ensemble are superb, particularly Dakota Beavers as Taabe, the elder brother of Naru. While being a fearless leader, he picks up the equipment required to slay the beast and offers Naru a chance to complete the task. Behind his machismo he is a loving supportive brother willing to sacrifice all for his sister and tribe. It’s good to witness a happy ending for our heroine after five gloomy sequels. That being said, the body count is very high as there is always a big price to pay when taking on a Predator.”

3 months agoI liked the concept of making it in the past with native Americans and European trappers/hunters. It cut thru the men with ease yet it beat her a few times, it would have wrecked her. She couldn't even hunt a Lion.

3 months agoPersonally i liked the movie . The whole idea of the tribal ppl vs predator was awesome . It was fun to see the challenges they face without modern weapons. But i think the lead actress was not a good fit . The character of naru was amateur and impulsive hunter who faield in her hunt . She clearly has advantages like her medicinal knowledge and using her brain to hunt that her strength. But her growth as a failed hunter to this badass who put down a giant 7 foot alien equipped with advanced alaien technology was hard to digest. I felt like her win was easier comapred fo other predator protagonist. Arnold Schwarzenegger charcater goes through hell before he figures out how to kill it. So i wished naru faced more challenges. Her brother on the other hand was a skilled hunter . I wish the movie showed them teaming up to hunt the predator coz that would have be more convincing.

2 months agoFun Fact
Adolini's pistol, also known as the Flintlock Pistol, featured in Predator 2 1990 and Prey (2022), has an intriguing backstory. In Predator 2, Danny Glover's character is handed the pistol as a trophy by the Predators. In Prey, which is set in 1719, the same pistol is used by Naru.
At the end of Prey, it's implied that more Predators will arrive, and Naru will eventually give the pistol to one of them. This explains how the weapon comes into Predator possession, ultimately becoming the trophy seen in Predator 2.
The pistol bears the engraving "Raphael Adolini 1715." Given that Prey takes place in 1719 and Predator 2 is set in 1997, the Predators held onto the pistol for 218 years—equivalent to 21 decades and 8 years.

2 months agoI went into this blind not knowing that it was from any franchise and was blown a way by the reveal. Cause I thought it was a historical style horror thriller, with the cool setting and protagonist, which reminded me of the Horizon & reboot Tomb Raider games.

4 weeks agoThis is basically a teen movie. There are no adult warriors in the tribe. All the tribal adults are in their fifties and out of shape, and its just teens left to do all the fighting. The only adult males are the French trappers and they are played as pathetic and dumb. And the Predator in this movie has no honor, unlike other movies. It will fight people who have melee weapons who want to go single combat, while invisible, attacking from behind, and it cheats using advanced weapons. Still entertaining to watch and very good cinematography.
