Prey | Official Trailer | Review
” On the Great Plains in 1719, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled Comanche warrior, sets out to protect her people when an unknown danger threatens them. The prey she’s stalking turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, and yes, the Predator has arrived for a hunt of his own.”
The Predator, an extraterrestrial from the planet Yautja, first made his appearance in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 1987 film. The beast has now made appearances in five follow-up films and has largely lost his allure. Prey, which shifts the action to 1719, benefits from Dan Trachtenberg’s steady direction, whose credits also include Black Mirror, No Escape, and 10 Cloverfield Lane. Amber Midthunder, who has never played a leading role in a motion picture gives a wonderful performance and brings a dangerous swagger to her part. Her Naru aspires to be a hunter like the men in her tribe, but when her first prey turns out to be an extraterrestrial, she finds herself in over her head but determined to prove herself a worthy warrior!
The plot is simple and well defined: With an axe in one hand and a bow in the other, Naru demonstrates her prowess as she moves through the woodland. She’s no match for this bigger, more nimble animal, yet she’s desperate to upset the food chain and prove herself to all. It’s kind of like seeing a rabbit chase a wolf. Along the journey, there are many encounters between Naru and Predator, as well as many challenges to keep the fearless Naru on her toes.
Prey follows in the tradition of Predator, which has always been about the action. Whether in a forest, lake, or camp, the beast always comes up with novel ways to dismember his victims. He uses the same tools from earlier episodes but with fewer modern trappings. A deft way of setting us in a bygone era where guns are substituted by spears while tearing into his prey like a lion does a piece of meat. In contrast to Arnold, Naru is more shaped like Ripley, bringing a Girl Power message to the never-ending fights. The kills are as spectacular in all their glory as is the cinematography and the breathtaking location where Prey was filmed.
Midthunder and the rest of the ensemble are superb, particularly Dakota Beavers as Taabe, the elder brother of Naru. While being a fearless leader, he picks up the equipment required to slay the beast and offers Naru a chance to complete the task. Behind his machismo he is a loving supportive brother willing to sacrifice all for his sister and tribe. It’s good to witness a happy ending for our heroine after five gloomy sequels. That being said, the body count is very high as there is always a big price to pay when taking on a Predator.”

5 months agoJust another girl boss movie set in a beautiful natural landscape.
show more show lessFilled with the typical cliched archetype characters.
It’s the predator so we all know what to expect. He’s gonna mow through everyone and everything until he meets his match against a tiny, precocious, girl with aspirations of being a supreme hunter.
Well wouldn’t you know she gets a chance to hunt the ultimate hunter.
Something that probably has killed hundreds if not thousands of species in its lifetime, armed with weaponry and technology that could take out an entire battalion.
But the predator never had to face the feared girl boss.
The most powerful being in the cinematic universes.

4 months agoThe physics was a little inconsistent the strength of that predator against the bear was crazy but when he smacked the girl it should have taken her head clean off with that kind of power but it just knocked her down. Idk that predator held back a lot and almost let himself get killed. Idk it was fun but just inconsistent to me.

4 months agoHearing them speak English completely took me out of the movie. Not only that but the main characters behave like it's 2022. I wish they had made more of an authentic movie from that time period instead of modernizing it just so it would appeal to younger people.

If you are doing a movie in nature, please source people that understand things outside of utopia life. Hipster Dan is proof that knowledge is subjective to lifestyle.

3 months agoThis movie was garbage. I didn't bother finishing it and I watched it 2/3'rds of the way through. It's SJW crap. The historical inaccuracy is so bad it's laughable. Anyone who knows a scooch about the Comanche knows they were from the plains of Texas; these people shot the movie in Alberta Canda in the Mountains!!!!! They feature French fur trappers, who were known for having good relations with Native Americans, but the movie makes them look like vicious savages. They accuse the French of the mass killing of Buffalo, but this film is supposed to be 300 years before our day and the mass killing of buffalo happened in the 19th century just over 100 years ago.

3 months agoah yes. Ruining another franchise by putting feminist garbage again. Female main character… Schwarzenegger was an elite special force and barely survived, and his whole crew got killed, but this chick is gonna fight it with a bow and an axe, yes or course that makes sense, because wammin powaa… Jesus they ruined star wars, terminators, now they wanna ruin AVP.

3 months agoWhat's the idea of putting a 15-year-old girl up against Predator? Arnold won, but his victory was an exception since Dutch commanded an elite combat unit and he's a huge guy. That girl wouldn't stand a chance against an enraged panther, even if she's been in the jungle her whole life and her life depended on it. If they're going to do that, they should use a woman who's more muscular, experienced, and older, and the film should explain beforehand that she has some kind of combat specialty. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense because according to the Predator franchise, Predators are as strong as several men. Dutch barely survived by a miracle, and now this girl with a small axe is supposed to compete with him? It's ridiculous

3 months agoHollywood and their laughable plan to get us to think that women are this tough. I'm pretty sure women don't cate to be tough. They have strengths that supersede men's by a mile, but not in hunting, running, carrying tuff, fighting, just not in those things. They can fake it to a certain degree. Think of a homosexual man, he can pretend to be a woman, all he wants, maybe even fool society, but people around him will find out, no matter how much he can pretend. Give it up fools in hollywood. Women aren't buying it. Not all women, but at least the ones that matter
